Abolish Racial Disparity in the Military Justice System
Major Jarrunis L. Yates is an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) for the 42d Air Base Wing at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He is responsible for providing legal support and advice to members of the 42d Air Base Wing, as well as subordinate units and partner commands. He assists in the the provision of legal services to over 30,000 active duty and civilian personel and provides advice in support of missions worldwide.
Major Yates received a direct commission as an Air Force Reserve Judge Advocate in March 2011. Prior to this current assignment he was a student at Air Command and Staff College (ACSC), Maxwell AFB. Before going to ACSC, Major Yates was selected to fulfill a Regular Air Force (RegAF) position for three years through the Voluntary Limited Period of Active Duty (VLPAD) program at AFRC/JA where he remained as an IMA reservist at its conclusion. Before assuming the VLPAD position, he was assigned as an IMA Reservist at Joint Base Charleston. His initial assignment was as a Category A (Traditional Reservist) at Seymour Johnson.
Major Yates is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of South Carolina, the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, the Supreme Court of Alabama, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. In his civilian practice his emphasis is in civil litigation, real estate and land use issues. He also handles administrative law cases to include social security disability work.
