Jonathan Pan

Visiting Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University

AI and National Security

Jon is a Visiting Fellow focused on AI for national security research at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He has also been an instructor at the University of California Irvine between 2017 – 2022, where he designed the first esports classes and taught hundreds of students. He has been published in Joint Forces Quarterly, Military Review, WIRED Magazine, Infantry Magazine, Army Magazine, Small Wars Journal, Army Communicator, and REDEF.

Jon is co-founder and CEO of Exia Labs, a defense tech startup focused on creating the AlphaGo for military missions. Prior to founding Exia, Jon was Senior Director of Product Management at the innovation unit of Walmart, America’s Fortune 1 Company. At Walmart, Jonathan led generative AI projects focused on shopping search and immersive shopping. He also led technology teams at Amazon, Meta, and Riot Games.

Jon served in the US Army from 2005 – 2010 as an Infantry officer. After he left active duty, he briefly served in the New York National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment. Jonathan is currently the US Army Reserve Ambassador to the State of Washington. In this volunteer role, Jonathan focuses on increasing the awareness of the US Army Reserve among local communities, civic leaders, and state legislators, with the goal of enhancing support for the Army Reserve, its personnel, and their families.
