Dr. Randy Brou is a DoD research psychologist with a life-long interest in how people comprehend their environments. He began his military research in 1999 during graduate school where he studied situated comprehension, team performance, and skill acquisition for the US Navy. His work caught the attention of the leadership of the Navy Personnel Research, Studies, and Technology (NPRST) laboratory in Millington, TN where he was offered a research psychologist position following the completion of his post-doctoral work. While at NPRST, Randy led research on the cross-training of crews for the Littoral Combat Ship as well as on the design of various tools for selection and classification into Navy job families. Randy worked with NPRST from September 2007 until his transfer to the Army Research Institute (ARI) in February 2014.

Randy entered ARI as a research psychologist and was eventually promoted to Team Leader and later to Research Unit Chief at the Fort Benning Research Unit (FBRU). During his time at FBRU, he led research on the assessment and development of leader competencies with a particular focus on leveraging technology to increase performance data granularity and improve diagnostic accuracy. As Research Unit Chief, Randy now supervises a unit of twelve full-time staff members as well as numerous graduate research fellows.

Randy has a Ph.D. in Applied Cognitive Science from Mississippi State University. He lives in Midland, GA with his wife of 22 years and their three children. In his off-duty hours, Randy spends time teaching, trying to get someone to play board games with him, and attending his children’s various performing arts performances.
