Games at Air University

Stephanie Taunton is the Wargame SME at SOS, Maxwell-Gunter AFB, Alabama. Ms. Taunton is responsible for the curriculum linkages, faculty development, wargame, and its supporting documentation for SOS. Ms. Taunton has served in the role for over a decade for SOS. During that time, she has supported other schools such as Officer Training School OTS), Air Command and Staff College (ACSC), Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), Inter European Air Force Academy (IEAFA), and Inter American Air Force Academy (IAAFA) with various wargames, scenarios, and documentation.

The current wargame at SOS was created by a team in-house. This wargame is in response to the need for discussions by captains around the South China Sea. SOS is the bridge from the tactical to the operational-level leaders across Air and Space. The wargame series, called OPLAN Orange, focuses on proactive and then reactive Air Combat Employment (ACE) maneuvers which challenge flights to work together to stand up various locations in a geographically separated environment. The wargame focuses on Air Force Force Generation (AFFORGEN) and its four phases of reset, prepare, ready and available to commit. The wargame series is broken into an introduction, proactive ACE, and finally reactive ACE.
